Costume Renderings
The costume rendering is a blueprint, a roadmap, a working drawing used to communicate the ideas of the costume designer to the director and the other members of the design team, the technicians who will create the costume, and the actor who will ultimately wear the costume and bring it to life. Costume renderings can take many forms, from simple pencil sketches to research collages to elaborately colored and finished drawings. However, it must be remembered that the costume rendering is not “art”; rather the collaborative art of theatre occurs when the costume is worn by the actor on stage in the ephemeral moment of the play itself – that is when the magic happens.
